This 8 or 16 hour, Level 3 course is suitable for anyone working in an Outdoor environment. It takes place 0900 – 1800hrs each day.
The contents of this course will cover primary and secondary care and are adapted to the outdoor world where the emergency services may be harder to access and is designed to cover content that is appropriate and applicable to an outdoor environment.
You have the choice of two courses on Booking depending on your needs.
The Outdoor Pursuits 8 Hour First Aid qualification is aligned with the Institute for Outdoor Learning (IOL) Statement of Good Practice on Outdoor First Aid Band 2. This runs day 1 only
The Outdoor Pursuits 16 Hour First Aid qualification is aligned with the Institute for Outdoor Learning (IOL) Statement of Good Practice on Outdoor First Aid Band 3. This runs for days 1 and 2.
This qualification indicates an individual can undertake the role of Outdoor First Aider in the more rural and remote areas of the British Isles where professional emergency assistance may be more than 10 minutes away.
Whilst this course meets the requirements for any person that needs a 16 hour Outdoor course to meet NGB requirements (Rambling groups, DofE, ML, SCUBA, Watersports etc.), if anyone is looking for more extreme scenario work as they are working more remotely this course is probably not for them and we would recommend the Remote / Wilderness courses that are available through other providers.
Learners have the option of adding the 1-day Emergency First Aid at work Qualification for an additional £20 at the time of Booking.
Topics include: roles & responsibilities, dealing with collapse (with and without breathing), choking, bleeding, shock, major illnesses, torso and limb injuries, environmental effects, heat and cold injuries, using first aid kit, outdoor specific scenarios, outdoor incident management and looking after a casualty for more than 10 minutes.
This course is designed to provide outdoor incident management skills. Typical delivery methods are predominantly practical, with elements occurring out of doors in outdoor clothing and on various terrains.
Minimum age for attending is 16, however there may be specific age limits within your workplace. Check before you Book.
Directions: Directions to the venue will be sent by email once Booking is made. Please wear clothing appropriate to the outdoor environment.
